The UC Davis Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Center for the Advancement of Multicultural Perspectives on Science (CAMPOS) welcomes six new faculty to its 2022 cohort of Faculty Scholars! They will be officially recognized during the CAMPOS Induction Ceremony on November 4, 2022 at the Manetti Shrem Museum.

The first seminar in CMSI's new Climate Justice Seminar Series will be on November 30th at 1 pm and will feature speaker Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson in a moderated discussion with Ph.D. Candidate Carina Fish.

Don is a familiar face around the Bodega Marine Lab, having completed his Ph.D. here in the 1970s when the lab was a UC Berkeley field site (check out the awesome throwback photo above of Don at the lab then, plus a photo taken during a visit to Salmon Creek last spring). Don and his wife, Vicki, still visit Bodega Marine Lab several times each year, where Don works on local crabs for his NSF grant projects.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Levi S. Lewis, a Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute affiliate who was recently awarded the UC Davis Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research. This award was created by the UC Davis Postdoctoral Scholars Association to recognize the vital role that postdoctoral scholars play in maintaining the reputation of excellent research at the University of California, Davis.

This award is given each year to a Professor who has consistently exhibited excellence in undergraduate teaching.  Brian has a long track record of outstanding teaching, both on the main campus and at the Bodega Marine Laboratory, and he is deeply respected and admired by his students and colleagues.

Bodega Marine Lab undergraduate students Michael Brito and Kenzie Pollard just won first prize for their short film, submitted to the 2020 UC Davis Research Rockstars Undergrad Slam Video Contest! Michael and Kenzie made their video as part of their independent research project last summer during the Coastal Marine Research (BIS 124) class at the laboratory, working under the guidance of Eric Sanford.

We would run out of space long before we could ever fully chronicle the extraordinary achievements and contributions of women in the fields of science and education, to UC Davis, and to the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute. But we're still going to try. In honor of International Women's Day, we'd like to introduce a sampling of the many amazing female faculty, students, and staff who are making a difference, each in her own unique, wonderful, and fearless way.

The “Science Uncorked” lecture series at the Gourmet Au Bay wine bar are the brainchild of Ellie Fairbairn and Kristin Aquilino, researchers at nearby Bodega Marine Labortory — part of UC Davis’ Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute. They coordinate the biweekly series independent of their work at BML, to communicate science to the public and inspire environmental stewardship.

Faculty, staff and students gathered at UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory today not for their weekly seminar, but to remember their colleague Susan L. Williams who died in a car accident Tuesday (April 24) while en route to the Davis campus to teach.

The University of California, Davis is set to receive nearly $3 million dollars from the National Science Foundation to  train the next generation of marine scientists with an emphasis and  focus on policy at the front end of research.
