Maria Rea

Maria Rea leads the California Central Valley Area office in her capacity as the Assistant Regional Administrator. The Central Valley Area Office is located a few blocks from the State Capitol in downtown Sacramento, California with a jurisdiction that spans the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Basins and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Maria works with a broad spectrum of stakeholders to lead NOAA’s conservation and management programs to protect and recover populations of endangered and threatened Central Valley steelhead, Central Valley spring-run and Sacramento River winter-run Chinook salmon, and the Southern Distinct Population Segment of North American green sturgeon.  Maria’s contributions towards salmon recovery include developing an agreement for fast-tracking Delta restoration projects, advancing collaboration and communication around the science of species management, building strong partnerships with state and federal agencies, and non-government interested parties.
